CBD Marketing Hub l Cannabis Marketing-Hub – Mother’s and Father’s Day celebrations are certain to be more meaningful this year, according to numerous mental health experts. For many families, they will provide the first opportunity to (more) safely reunite since the beginning of the pandemic. Although the majority of family events will still take place outdoors in socially distanced environments, some may present the first opportunity for newly vaccinated family elders to give and receive hugs.
Such big events are customarily celebrated with grand gestures packed with significance. As with most holidays, one of the primary ways people reflect and celebrate meaningful relationships is through gift-giving.
And, when it comes to gifts, experts predict that Americans will be very generous again this year.
Last year, Mother’s Day-related consumer spending increased significantly, rising $8 above 2019, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF), which revealed an average spend of $205 on cards, gifts, and special meals for mom.
NRF reports that younger consumers under 25 spent about $39 more over the prior year. Young parents followed closely behind with generous gifts aimed at showcasing an appreciation for stress-out spouses.
Father’s Day figures were also up in 2020 with average consumer spending of $148.58 in comparison with an average spend of $138.97 the prior year.
The biggest spenders for Father’s Day were consumers aged 35 to 44, who spent $209.70 on personal care, gift cards, clothing and other gift items.
A report on Money Task Force, indicated a slightly higher (Mother’s Day) spend, reporting that consumer spending rose $10 over the prior year.
Similar trends are predicted for 2021.
Nina Nowak, Senior Researcher at GlobalData, comments: “Mother’s Day 2021 will bring an opportunity for brands to test the long-term potential of indulgent or tailored consumer options.
Products that evoke positivity and comfort will also be highly desirable gifts this year, according to Nowak.
Practical gifts always play well if packaged attractively, according to numerous market experts who report that gifts that inspire relaxation and recovery will play particularly well this Mother’s Day.
Shopping small is still on-trend, according to numerous marketing experts who predict that small businesses will be among the beneficiaries of gift occasions this year.
Last year one in five shoppers planned to purchase their Father’s Day present from a small business, according to a published post in muchneeded.com.
The desire to shop local will continue to dominate consumer trends well into 2021, according to Forbes.
